ING investeert in het broeikaseffect en de schending van mensenrechten. Als één van de zeventien investeerders in de Dakota Access Pipeline druist ING in tegen haar eigen claim een ‘wereldleider in actie tegen klimaatverandering’ te zijn en steunt ze weerzinwekkend geweld tegen vreedzame actievoerders.
De Dakota Access Pipeline is een project voor het transport van aardolie van North Dakota naar Illinois. Het zal aanzetten tot meer winning van aardolie en de huidige exploitatie van fossiele brandstoffen verspoedigen. Daarnaast schendt de bouw een verdrag met de Standing Rock Sioux stam en schendt het plaatsen die voor hen heilig zijn; onder andere door vervuiling van het water. Vreedzaam protest tegen de bouw wordt momenteel tegengegaan met zwaar geweld van zwaar gemilitarizeerde politie.
Door 120 miljoen US Dollars te investeren in dit project laat ING zien dat ze een onethische bank is die geen zorg draagt voor het broeikaseffect, locaal milieu of zelfs mensenrechten. We roepen iedereen die zaken doet met de ING op om ING te vragen zich terug te trekken uit het project, of anders over te stappen naar een andere bank. De grootste bank in Noowegen, DNB, heeft dit al gedaan na een soortgelijke campagne.

ING invests in global warming and the violation of human rights. As one of the 17 banks funding the Dakota Access Pipeline, ING goes directly against their own claim of being a ‘world leader for corporate action on climate change’ and is supporting violence that should horrify anyone involved with the bank.
Once completed, the Dakota Access Pipeline will transport fracked oil from North Dakota to Illinois, encouraging oil extraction and endangering water supplies along the pipeline. Furthermore, construction of the pipeline violates a treaty against the Standing Rock Sioux and has desecrated holy sites of the tribe. Non-violent resistance against the construction of the pipeline has been met with disproportionate violence from heavily militarized police.
By funneling 120 million US Dollars into this project, ING shows to be a highly unethical bank with no concern for global climate, local environment, or even basic human rights. We call on everyone involved with ING to request ING to withdraw from the project, or switch to another bank if ING fails to do so. The largest bank in Norway, DNB, has already withdrawn from the project after a similar campaign.
